You are on a trip to Madrid, the weather is nice and you don’t want to stay indoors, so you are looking for a terrace. And if it’s high up, it’s even better! Madrid has many options – from rooftops with pools to high-rise restaurants – and here are the ones we consider the best.

The best rooftops in Madrid

▶ Room Mate Oscar Hotel

  • Pedro Zerolo Square 12
  • Make a booking here for a breakfast (every day) or a brunch (Saturday)
  • For everyone else (people with no booking), the terrace is open evening-nightly year-round (from 16h to 00h).

In the Chueca neighborhood and a stone’s throw from Gran Vía, Oscar’s Terrace has become one of the most emblematic places in Madrid. This haven of peace with 360° views of Madrid from the heights is very popular with locals and tourists to enjoy the sunset. Designed by renowned interior designer Tomás Alía, it offers a relaxing setting with balinese beds, lounge chairs and a large bar.

In summer and winter, Oscar’s Terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a great view of Madrid. In summer, visitors can also enjoy the
pool
and the solarium, to stay tanned!

One of the best things about the Oscar terrace is the breakfast it offers until noon every day (cold cuts, coffees, pastries, teas, fruits…) for 12.95€ (6€ for children). A fairly moderate price. They also offer a Saturday brunch which is not bad at all! Click here to book your experience at Oscar’s.

▶ Hotel Indigo

The Indigo rooftop is one of the best terraces in the city and offers incredible views and unique sunsets. In addition to the rooftop, you will find a seasonal pool with bar at the edge of the pool and a very fresh and healthy gastronomic offer.

Because of its orientation, it is a great place to go in the evening to watch the sunset. Indigo offers an Italian-inspired aperitif, served on the rooftop of the hotel (from 5pm to 8pm) which includes 2 aperol sprits and a table of Italian sausages to share (30€ for 2 people, a rather moderate price for a rooftop). It’s not a bad place to end a day of tourism. You can book here

On the other hand, the bar is a colorful and traditional space in the purest «Madrid tavern» style but with a modern touch. The ideal place to enjoy a beer with a delicious tapa.

▶The Hat

The Hat is a hotel (is more like a hostel) that has a small terrace on the top floor that is one of the nicest terraces in Madrid. With a young and friendly atmosphere, its waiters are covered with tattoos and its cocktails are served in jam jars.

The terrace is freely accessible to non-residents of the hotel and its prices are – for this kind of place – rather accessible. The place is pleasant, welcoming and charming. Although it is not one of the highest  rooftops in Madrid, it still offers us a magnificent view of the red-tiled roofs (we love it).

The market of San Antón

Many do not expect it, but in this renovated food market there is a restaurant-terrace, as we like them, on the top floor. Low chairs, comfortable seats, sofas, high tables… This rooftop has practically everything, its access is free and on top of that its prices are reasonable.

▶ Hotel ME

On the super touristic and beautiful Plaza de Santa Ana we find one of the most exclusive rooftops in Madrid that belongs to the ME Hotel. It is definitely not a terrace for everyone and is known to be one of the most expensive.

▶ Círculo de Bellas Artes

We love the rooftop of the Círculo de Bellas Artes (Cercle des Beaux Arts) ! It offers us a magnificent view of the Gran Vía and its beautiful building Metrópolis.  Círculo de Bellas Artes is an impressive place and its sculptures on the roof amaze us. Going up costs 6€ but the drinks have an accessible price.  Once up there, comfortable armchairs await us as well as a large space, good music and a menu of drinks and tapas that are not at all bad.

▶ Hotel Collection Madrid Suecia

Without entrance fees and a little further away from the hustle and bustle (but also a stone’s throw from the Gran Vía) of the terraces offered so far, we find the rooftop of the Hotel Collection Madrid Suecia. Perhaps the view is not as spectacular as the other terraces (we can barely see the Gran Vía and its emblematic skyline) but you can enjoy a great view of the Cibeles Palace, the literary quarter and the Retiro Park.

▶ Vincci Mint Hotel

As you are noticing, most of the rooftops are located on the roofs of hotels… well, one more! The Vincci Mint Hotel in Gran Vía has a charming and very colorful little terrace, with a vintage food truck where they serve you all kinds of cocktails! Again, the view is not as spectacular as the other terraces, but definitely worth it.

▶ DEAR Hotel: Nice to Meet You Sky Lounge

  • Terrase on the 14th floor of the Dear Hotel
  • Gran Vía, 80
  • https://goo.gl/maps/BrEpC9zMgsN2
  • Mon-Thu and Sunday from 8pm to midnight. Friday and Saturday until 1am.

At the DEAR Hotel there is another of the rooftops listed in the article «rooftop pools». Spectacular 360º views of the Royal Palace, Casa de Campo Park, Plaza de España and the Gran Via from the 14th floor of this hotel. It’s a romantic place to have a few cocktails or to have dinner with a group of friends. They usually have resident DJs because it’s a special place to start the night.

▶ Salvador Bachiller’s secret garden

The secret garden of Salvador Bachiller is located on the top floor of the store that bears the same name on Montera Street. The two-storey building has a small open-air terrace that looks like something out of a fairy tale, a second air-conditioned terrace and a lower floor with a greenhouse.  We can have a drink or a meal in both atmospheres and even if the lower part has less charm because it is closed, the place remains incredible.

▶ El Viajero

In the center of La Latina and next to the Market of the Cebada.  There is a three-story bar called El Viajero. On its roof we can have cocktails, beers or tapas. It is appreciated for its view of the old Madrid and the impressive basilica of San Francisco. On top of that the terrace is west facing which makes it ideal for watching the sunsets . An acceptable quality-price ratio for the place and the location. To drink something, very well. The dishes are in the spirit of finger food and market cuisine. Average quality and service a little bit slow.

▶ Apartosuites Sabatini Gardens

  • Open during evenings at spring and summer from May to Septembre (for the public, hotel guests have access all day, all year)

Near the Royal Palace you can find the Apartosuites Sabatini Gardens 5 minutes walk from the Palace. Comfortable chairs, artificial grass and an incredible view of the Palace and the Egyptian temple of Debod.

▶ Cibeles Palace

Finally, the Cibeles Palace also has a gazebo and a rooftop restaurant where you can have a cocktail while admiring the beauty of the Gran Vía, the Paseo de la Castellana and the Bank of Spain.
