The Madrid region has many options for lovers of camping, caravans and nature.

Most of the options are located -on average – about 40 kms from the capital,in the mountains or in tourist attractions such as Aranjuez or El Escorial Do you come without a car and are looking for campsites accessible by public transport? There are, too.

We have visited their websites, their opinions and scores and focused everything we have found about it in this article.

Still, we haven’t visited them all personally so we recommend that you visit their respective websites as well as Google or Tripadvisor reviews before booking on any of them.

Camping Osuna: a campsite in the city

Gardens of Aranjuez s/n. Madrid

The nearest campsite to the center of Madrid is Camping Osuna (Calle Jardines de Aranjuez ). The campsite shares a plot with the beautiful Madrid park of El Capricho and is 10 minutes walk from a metro stop that will leave you in the center of Madrid in approximately 25 minutes.

With a score of 3.5 out of 5 on Google, the campsite does not have much shade or swimming pool (important factors to consider in summer) and seems to take advantage of its privileged location neglecting something the rest of its services.

If you value the location most since you don’t have a car, this is definitely the most recommended option. Do you have a vehicle? Then read on because there are better options.

Camping Caravaning Alpha

Street Quality s/n. Getafe.Madrid

The second most close option to the center of Madrid also allows us to reach it by public transport although in this case, it will take about an hour. The campsite is located in Getafe (bedroom city attached to Madrid) and not far from one of the most important roads in the area, making it somewhat noisy.

Users of the Alpha campsite have rated it in Google with a 3.6 out of 5 and stand out above all its leisure area with barbecues, its sports courts and its swimming pool.


Are you planning to do free camping? Unfortunately, free camping is prohibited throughout the Autonomous Community of Madrid.


Camping Arco Iris Madrid

Although the natural environment is not of great interest, the camping Arco Iris is located in the municipality of Villaviciosa de Odón in Madrid and only 25 minutes by car from Puerta del Sol.

Medium/large campsite perfect for families, modern bungalows, cozy décor, nice treatment, good services, playground & pool. Google users give it a 4 out of 5 and highlight the good value for money of the restaurant.


Aranjuez International Camping

Our next proposal is located in Aranjuez, about 50 kms from the center of Madrid and only 20 minutes from Warner Bros Park. Aranjuez is a World Heritage Site and famous for its Royal Palace, its gardens and beautiful historic center.

Google users give Aranjuez 4.1 out of 5 the Aranjuez international campsite and highlight its riverside location, animation and children’s facilities. Users comment that WIFI is not free and also the presence of mosquitoes due to the river.

Camping El Escorial

Another campsite located in a privileged location. The Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is located 50 km from Madrid and is a complex that includes a royal palace, a basilica, a pantheon, a school and a monastery built in the sixteenth century.

The most «northern» of our proposals. Monte Holiday campsite is a first class campsite located in the Sierra de Guadarrama Mountain, at 1200 metres of altitude. Top destination for rural tourism, trekking and hiking. 45 km from Madrid and 35 km from Segovia, its location is perfect for those who want to get to know the area in depth.

The option for lovers of water activities. Aquanor is camping but it is also a hostel and rural accommodation. It is located on the banks of the El Atazar reservoir, in the north of the region and relatively close to Segovia.

In the paradise of the northern mountains of Madrid we find the campsite Pico de la Miel. Large sports spaces, swimming pools and a variety of outdoor activities to enjoy nature and the surroundings.

Google users give it a 3.8 out of 5 and comment that the property is mostly designed for regular users and long-term stays, than for passing travelers. They highlight the friendliness of their staff, their easy access and their tranquility.

The campsite El Valle is also located in the northern mountains of Madrid, in an idyllic natural environment and only 5 km from Miraflores de la Sierra. It has large plots for caravans, tents, mobile homes and bungalows.

With a 3.9 out of 5, the staff, the location and its family atmosphere stand out. Perfect once again, to breathe fresh air and enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities


Camping El Canto de La Gallina

2nd Street of May 1, 28295. Valdemaqueda, Madrid.

Close to the campsite of El Escorial, this establishment is located in an unrivalled environment: on the mountainside, a wooded area protected by being a habitat of birds of prey. Spacious, well organized and equipped, good treatment, lovely place and good service. Not for nothing, its users give it a score of 4.2 out of 5.


Camping Pisces

Road M-625. 28729, Navalafuente, Madrid.

As its name suggests, this campsite has to do with water and is located next to Guadalix de la Sierra and near the Pedrezuela reservoir (12 kms). In a Mediterranean holm oak and only 25 minutes from Madrid by motorway, the campsite has a differentiating element and is that: it has a bus in direct connection with Madrid Capital. Google users rate it 3.6 out of 5.





Oremor Camping

The Oremor campsite is mostly aimed at long-term users. A somewhat old campsite that has been renovated (and still does) to offer modern and updated facilities. In a privileged environment and a quiet area, ideal to enjoy nature. Google users give it 3.9 out of 5.
