Looking for a campsite near Madrid Capital?

The Madrid region offers many options for camping, caravanning and nature lovers. Most campsites are located an average of 40 km from the capital, in the mountains or at tourist attractions such as Aranjuez or El Escorial. Coming without a car and looking for campsites accessible by public transport? There are those too.

Campsites in Madrid: The complete list of campsites in Madrid.

We visited their websites, their opinions and reviews and summarised everything we found about them in this article.Nevertheless, we have not visited them all personally, so we recommend you to visit their respective websites and Google or Tripadvisor reviews before booking with any of them.

The Association of Campsites of Madrid has created this visual map that summarises most of the campsites in the region

▶  Camping Osuna: a campsite in the city

The campground closest to the centre of Madrid is Osuna Campground (Calle Jardines de Aranjuez). The campsite shares its plots with the beautiful Madrid park El Capricho and is only a 10-minute walk from a metro station (El Capricho) that will take you to the centre of Madrid in about 25 minutes.

The campground, rated 3.8 out of 5 on Google, has few shaded areas and no pool (to be noted in summer). It has a dog area, a children’s area, a caravan area with electricity, a camping area without electricity, and a bar-restaurant that customers find quite expensive (fortunately, it is located in the city, where there are many more dining options). It will also open bungalows soon. Until recently, Camping Osuna could offer its privileged location, neglecting the rest of its services (clean toilets, but very old…) ¡ It has no competition!

Since 2021, the campsite has a new management and has made some improvements. It seems that the campsite is gradually distinguishing itself from its competitors. If you think that the location of the campsite is the most important thing and if you do not have a car, this is probably the most recommended option. Do you have a vehicle? Then read on, because there are better options.

▶ Camping Caravaning Alpha

The second closest option near the center of Madrid also allows us to reach it by public transport, although in this case it takes about an hour. The campsite is located in Getafe (a dormitory town attached to Madrid) and not far from one of the main roads in the area, making it a bit noisy. Alpha Campsite users have rated it 3.6 out of 5 in Google, highlighting especially the leisure area with barbecues, the sports fields and the swimming pool.

Do you plan to camp for free? Unfortunately, free camping is prohibited throughout the region  of Madrid.

▶  Camping Arco Iris Madrid

Although the natural environment is not of great interest, the Arco Iris campsite is located in the municipality of Villaviciosa de Odón in Madrid and only 25 minutes by car from Puerta del Sol. This medium-sized campsite is ideal for families and has modern bungalows (some of them “suites with jacuzzi”), comfortable facilities, services, a playground and a swimming pool. Of course, it also has a camping area and caravans. Google users give it a score of 4 out of 5 and refer to the good value for money of your restaurant.

▶ Aranjuez International Camping

This campsite is located in Aranjuez, about 50 km from the center of Madrid (good access to the capital) and only 20 minutes from Warner Bros Park. Because of its location, Aranjuez is a place from which many hiking trails depart. If you are looking for an accessible campsite in a historic and natural environment, Aranjuez is a very good choice.

Google users rate Camping Aranjuez International 4.1 out of 5, citing its riverside location, animation and facilities for children. It has 3 swimming pools (2 of them with slides and water swings). The swimming pools are a meeting place for travellers and locals in the summer (many Madridians escape from the heat of the capital to this campsite to take a dip in the pool during the summer vacations and weekends).

It has 162 pitches for camping-caravanning between 80 and 130 m2, 23 bungalows and 10 rooms, spread over 30,000 m2. There is also a football field, tennis court, supermarket, gas station for motorhomes and laundry. Visitors mention that the wifi is not free and point out the presence of mosquitoes due to the proximity to the river.
