You are traveling in Madrid in good weather and you do not want anything to be indoors so you are looking for a terrace. And if it’s on top better than better ! Madrid has many options – from rooftops with swimming pool to restaurants in high rise – and here are the ones we consider the best.
The 12 best terraces – rooftops in Madrid
The hat
Imperial Street, 9/ thehatmadrid.com / Free
https://goo.gl/maps/gnAkM6PXz722
The Hat is a hostel that has on its top floor a terrace that is one of the most friendly in Madrid. Young and casual in a relaxed atmosphere, its waiters are full of tattoos and their cocktails are served in jam jars. It is freely accessible for non-residents in the hostel and its prices are – within these types of places – quite affordable. The place is nice, cozy and has charm. Although it is not one of the highest terraces in Madrid it offers us a great view over the red tile roofs that we love.

The San St. Peter’s Market Anton
Calle Augusto Figueroa 24B / mercadosananton.com / Free

Many do not expect it, but in this renovated market, there is a restaurant-terrace on the top floor that we love. Low chairs, comfortable armchairs, sofas, high tables… This terrace has practically everything, is free of charge and also its prices are reasonable.

In the super touristand and beautiful Plaza de Santa Ana, we find one of the most exclusive terraces in Madrid that belongs to the hotel me. It is certainly not a terrace for all audiences and has a reputation for being one of the most expensive.

Circle of Fine Arts
Calle Alcalá 42 / WEB / entrance 4o / L-V from 9 to 9pm, S-D from 11 to 9pm
https://goo.gl/maps/ZuFUMqCFXtw
We love the terrace of the Circle of Fine Arts! It provides us with a great view of Madrid’s Gran Via and its beautiful Metropolis building. The Circle of Fine Arts is an impressive place and its sculptures on the roof marvel at us. Attention, going up costs 4 euros but the consumptions have affordable prices. Upstairs we are waiting for comfortable armchairs, lots of space, good music and a drink and tapas menu that is not bad at all.

Hotel Collection Madrid Sweden

With no entrance fee and a little further away from the hustle and bustle of the terraces so far proposed, we find the terrace of the hotel collection Madrid Sweden. The view may not be as spectacular as that of other terraces (you can hardly see the Gran Via and its iconic skyline, but you will also enjoy great views over the Palacio de Cibeles, about the Barrio de las Letras and the Retiro Park.

Hotel Vincci Mint

As you are well aware, most of the terraces are located on the roofs of the hotels… Well well another ! The Vincci hotel Mint in Gran Via has a charming and very colorful terrace, with a vintage Food Truck where you will be served all kinds of cocktails! Again the views are not as spectacular as no back terraces but it is certainly worth it anyway.
Hotel Iberostar

And again on Gran Via, we find the roof of the Iberostar hotel. Terrace with wooden elements, designer chairs, plants and trees, elegant cocktails and pleasant music. Its restaurant is a great place to come for an aperitif or enjoy the sunset and although it is not as high as that of the Circle of Fine Arts, it gives us a good view also over the Gran Via and the Palace of Cibeles.

Salvador Bachiller’s Secret Garden
https://goo.gl/maps/WvSa2izk7gC2
Salvador Bachiller’s garden is located on the top floor of the shop of the same name in the heart of Montera Street. The two-story place has an outdoor terrace that looks like it’s taken from a fairy tale and with a lower floor where we find a greenhouse. We can have a drink or eat in both atmospheres and although at the bottom it has less charm because of being closed, the place is still amazing.

The Traveler

In the center of La Latina we find a 3-storey bar called El Viajero, on whose roof we can enjoy cocktails, beers and tapas. We love it for its view over Old Madrid and the impressive Basilica of San Francisco. In addition the terrace is facing west, which makes it great to watch the sunsets.
